Biennial Sorbello Conference
The Sorbello Foundation is pleased to announce the 2025 edition of the Biennial Sorbello Conference – Cultural Exchanges Between Italy and the United States, which will take place on October 2–3, 2025 at the Center for Italian Studies, Stony Brook University (New York).
This year’s theme, ‘Italian’ Intellectuals in the U.S. / ‘Italian’ Intellectuals and the U.S., will explore the role of Italian and Italian-American intellectuals in shaping transatlantic cultural exchanges during the twentieth century, as well as the impact of U.S. culture on Italian intellectual life.
The program will open on Thursday, October 2, from 4:00 to 6:15 PM, with welcoming remarks by Andrea Fedi, Director of the Center for Italian Studies, and Ruggero Ranieri, President of the Sorbello Foundation, followed by the keynote lecture delivered by Anthony Julian Tamburri (Calandra Institute, CUNY).
On Friday, October 3, from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, the conference will continue with a full day of panels dedicated to historical and cultural perspectives on Italian intellectuals and their connections with the United States. Among the presentations are contributions by former Sorbello Fellows Amanda Swain and Giorgio Bertellini, who will present research carried out thanks to the support of the Sorbello Fellowship.
The conference is hosted by the Center for Italian Studies at Stony Brook University, in partnership with the Romeyne Robert and Uguccione Sorbello Foundation, and co-sponsored by the Ragusa Foundation for the Humanities, New York.
